About The Event

Prostituted girls and women from Kolkata’s red light areas and activists under the banner of Apne Aap Women Worldwide took out a, first of its kind, candle light march in the Sonagachi red light area, to demand police action against the murderer of Sathi Das. Sathi Das, a 24 year old prostituted woman, who was a member of the Apne Aap network was murdered in Sonagachi. She was trying to exit prostitution by getting small parts in TV serials before she was strangulated to death 'allegedly' by her client. The police have yet to arrest anyone. Some of the slogans used during the silent march: --Sathi had a dream to exit prostitution. --No more murder in Sonagachi ! --Your silence encourages violence and assists the criminals -- Am I the next?
