About The Event
One Billion Rising is returning for a REVOLUTION! We are proud to once again host a Rising in Big Rapids to spread awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. Now that we have brought the issue of violence against women and girls front and center through One Billion Rising in 2013 and One Billion Rising for Justice in 2014, we are not waiting any longer. 1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. This is the time for a revolution. We invite all women and girls (and the men and boys who love them) to join us at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 13 at The Gate on Perry Avenue. Come join the movement, bring a sign or stand in support. The Gate will be donating a portion of the proceeds throughout the event to WISE. There is no fee to attend and children are welcome. We work to highlight the many groups working to end violence and invite you to DRUM up the will of the community to end violence against women and girls, to DANCE in celebration of our local women's organizations and RISE in honor and awareness of those who have lost their lives to violence and for those who work on issues that affect women in our communities and our state.
2015 is a year for change. Won't you join us?
We will have performances by The Secret Bellydancers of Muskegon and Hand Percussionist Eric Durkee of Grand Ledge as well as live music. Voices that Speak video presentation, guest speakers, and experiences of survivors.
