About The Event

OAKLAND ICE CENTER PARTNERS WITH BAY AREA RISING TO RAISE MONEY FOR PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS This Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2015, the Oakland Ice Center Operated by Sharks Ice (“OIC”) will host an event in partnership with Bay Area Rising as part of a global “V-Day” effort to raise awareness about the epidemic of violence against women and girls. Proceeds from the event will be donated on behalf of Bay Area Rising to two local non-profit organizations, IDEX (International Development Exchange) and 1000 Mothers to Prevent Violence. The evening festivities will include an opportunity for a limited number of donors to play a fun, pick-up style hockey game; performances by Olympic figure skater Polina Edmunds and the UC Berkeley Figure Skating Team; a private donor skate with an appearance by none other than S.J. Sharkie; and a silent auction including a variety of San Jose Sharks autographed memorabilia as well as other valuable items. Sharks Ice is donating all ice time and other expenses to ensure that every dollar raised will go directly to Bay Area Rising’s efforts. “We take great pride in providing a safe and positive environment for girls and boys of all socio-economic backgrounds to recreate and develop strong character,” said Melissa Fitzgerald, OIC General Manager. “I was really surprised to learn that one in every three women worldwide will be the victim of physical abuse at some point in her lifetime. We are honored to contribute to this global effort to end violence against women and girls.”
