Today, on the planet, a billion women – one of every three women on the planet – will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION mothers, daughters, sisters, partners, and friends violated. V-Day REFUSES to stand by as more than a billion women experience violence.
We have danced and risen last February 14th, 2013, to show the world that Aklan Province's encourages those who love them women and girls to walk out, DANCE, RISE UP, AND DEMAND an end to this violence. One Billion Rising is a promise that we will rise up with women and men worldwide to say, "Enough! The violence ends now."
In the Province of Aklan, there were a number of initiatives to Ending VAW, including the VAWDoc System that was financially and technically assisted by the PCW AECID Project, but significantly, the number of VAW victims continuously increases, as per Aklan Provincial Police Office, in 2013 there were 582 recorded cases of crimes against women. In the pursuit of the Provincial Government of Aklan and the Aklan GAD Commission, in partnership with NGAs and CSOs particularly MOVE – Aklan to preventing VAW if not totally eradicating crimes against women, we take part to the international celebration of Ending VAW.
One Billion Rising for Justice is now celebrated in Aklan on the 14th of February 2014: We will again RISE, DANCE and fight for JUSTICE! No more hiding, we will be shoulders and protection for every woman and girl experiencing violence. This is a promise of the Provincial Government of Aklan with the PCW AECID Project that we will continuously rise up with women and men worldwide in saying that Violence Ends Now and Justice must be served.
