About The Event

1 Billion Rising - Flagler County will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 1-2:30 pm. At this event, we will dance to rise as part of this world-wide revolution to break the chains of domestic violence. This will include a full hour of Nia, a mind/body/spirit movement practice that is designed for people of all ages and abilities. Nia blends elements of Dance, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Martial Arts with soul-stirring music and joyful movement. We will dance a Nia routine that has been specially crafted for this event: uplifting music, empowering lyrics, and simple choreography. Join us as we rise with dance and song - a community that does not accept violence against women and children. All donations will go to the Family Life Center (FLC) located in Flagler County. The center provides no-cost services, including emergency shelter, to individuals and families experiencing domestic or sexual violence. The Nia class will be led by Nancy Kern, Certified Yoga and Nia instructor and a volunteer at FLC.

About The Organizer

Nancy Kern

Nancy is a retiree who provides health and fitness classes to active adults as well as individuals with serious illnesses. The classes that she develops and teaches are primarily based on a fusion fitness format called Nia. Nia combines techniques from the dance arts, martial arts and healing arts into a joyful dance experience that emphasizes self-healing and relaxation, as well as offering a unique workout for mind, body and spirit. Nia provides great variety and supports various fitness levels and goals, with an emphasis on having fun. Nancy has recently begun to teach classes at the Family Life Center which provides shelter to abused women and their children. Together they dance Nia, usually adding hula hoops to help their spirits soar as they concentrate on having fun, at least for a short time.
