About The Event

Join Anakbayan Silicon Valley, Gabriela SF, BAYAN USA Northern CA and progressive women’s organizations in the Bay Area in a Flash Mob Action as part of the international effort of the One Billion Rising(OBR) movement to END all forms of violence against women and children. We join the OBR Philippine’s dance and call to Rise for Revolution! People can participate by learning the dance and making their own placard defining what Revolution means to them. REVOLUTION is a demand for nothing less than a SYSTEM CHANGE – overhauling, challenging and fighting against a corrupt system and government that neglects the poor and only serves the rich, big business people and foreign corporations. Filipinos are RISING TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS – BY RISING AGAINST ALL THE SYSTEMS THAT KEEP POVERTY, DISCRIMINATION, OPPRESSION AND INEQUALITY IN PLACE. Dancing and Rising for Revolution means that we want a Philippines that is for the Filipino people- affordable housing, free health care & education, the right to land and life of indigenous peoples, a country that is self sustaining through national industrialization!

BAGONG ALYANSANG MAKABAYAN (BAYAN) or New Patriotic Alliance was established in May 1985 at the height of the struggle against the US-Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines. It brought together more than one thousand mass organizations with a total membership of more than one million, representing different classes and sectors of society and committed to the people’s struggle for national liberation and democracy. BAYAN USA is an international chapter of BAYAN Philippines expanding the National Democratic movement participation to the United States. BAYAN USA is also multi-sectoral with GABRIELA USA and ANAKBAYAN USA representing organizations composed of women, youth and student and LGBTQ. We resolve to strengthen and unite an overseas chapter of BAYAN comprised of the basic sectors and progressive forces of Filipinos in the U.S. to struggle against imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism.
We resolve to raise the consciousness of, organize and mobilize Filipinos in the U.S., linking their basic issues of rights and welfare to the National Democratic struggle. We resolve to build international solidarity among all peoples in the U.S. along the lines of an anti-imperialist united front.
