“Our Campaign this year is to show, through the eye of a child, the impact of violence on children. We picked children as our focus this year because children are vulnerable to violence and the effects can be lifelong”

One Billion Rising Coordinator for Kenya, CECILIA BRENDA, also works with HER Voice Kenya as a team leader. HER Voice Kenya is organisation which helps rape survivors access healthcare, counselling, and get justice. For young girls, HER Voice Kenya puts them back to school with assistance of well-wishers and bursaries. For older women, HER Voice Kenya offers an empowerment programme for them.

Cecilia, an Alumni of International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP) loves and considers working for people – and with people – as her calling.

Cecilia and a team of like minded friends came together to form HER Voice Kenya after a successful community campaign called #MyDressMyChoice which was calling for justice for a young lady who had been stripped and sexually abused on a city bus. The demo led to inclusion of stripping in the Sexual Offences Act (SOA) from robbery with Violence.

Through HER Voice, Cecilia says she is happy to see some issues being solved; she points out that her main drive is in her wish to see good governance taking precedence in everything.
