About The Event

Join WANE-TV's Terra Brantley, Fort Wayne Public Safety Director Rusty York, Allen County Prosecuting Attorney Karen Richards , and hundreds more as we Rise, Dance, & Release to end violence against women and girls globally. No dance experience is required, and you don't even have to dance to make a difference! Simply show up to spread awareness & energy to eradicate one of the most pervasive issues of our time and improve a whole lot of lives. - This is a free event with a suggested donation of $3. - Speakers and grooving will start promptly at 5:15. Dress for the weather as we plan to rise outdoors in the stadium for no more than 30 minutes. - Stay tuned here for information on tickets to a reception at Parkview Field's Suite Lounge following the outdoor event. Worldwide every 1 in 3 women & girls will be impacted by violence or abuse in her lifetime, whether it be physical, emotional, or sexual, and of course this affects many men & boys too. One in three means unfortunately, this will touch you or someone you know. But together, by RISING, sharing our stories and shedding light on the topic, we can spread hope and healing among survivors, and break the chain of violence and abuse. What could happen if on Valentine's Day, we reach out beyond ourselves to spread love and respect as far and wide as possible? Last year nearly 600 people joined us at Parkview Field, and many survivors came forward to share their stories and move on to liberation and healing. This year we'll provide even more information about local resources that help prevent and intervene in violence and abuse situations. All event proceeds will benefit our charity partner organizations: YWCA Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne Center for Nonviolence, Women's Bureau, Inc., Crime Victim Care Cvc, and the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center. Stay tuned here for more event details, visit onebillionrisingfw.com for more information or to donate, and join us February 14, 2014 to RISE!

About The Organizer

Lori Rose

Lori Rose is the Executive Director of Fort Wayne Trails, Inc., co-founder of Salsa Loca Fort Wayne, and initiator of One Billion Rising Fort Wayne. She also teaches Zumba Fitness at the YMCA Central Branch and private salsa, ballroom, and special event dance lessons.

During her time working on the Fort Wayne Trails, the area’s multi-use trail network has expanded from 23 to 75 miles and is now a celebrated part of Fort Wayne’s social fabric. Lori has won awards including the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly 40 Under 40 Award, Indiana State Trail Advocacy Award, and YWCA Hope Award for Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention.

Lori is driven by two mottoes: 1) Celebrating life’s magic, and 2) Healing, empowering and igniting teens and adults through movement and education. To honor these, she enjoys adventures like biking to work, travelling and learning the flying trapeze in her spare time, while constantly reaching out to teach the lessons she has learned through her own journey. When she is not teaching, dancing or building trails, she relishes time in nature, reflection, or most importantly, time spent savoring laughter as often as possible.
