One Billion Rising New Mexico launches with an action in support of Chainbreaker on 22 September- Rising against Displacement and its consequences to women and girls in the community:

Chainbreaker is a membership-based economic and environmental justice organization. We work to expand access to affordable transportation and sustainable communities for working people in the Santa Fe, New Mexico region.

Statement from Jessica Montoya – OBR New Mexico Coordinator:

One Billion Rising New Mexico is standing in solidarity with Chainbreaker Collective to urge Mayor Gonzales and the Santa Fe City Council to protect women and children living in and around his proposed overlay district. We serve marginalized populations of Santa Fe and know that this overlay district will bring many things we want and crave for our families but at what cost? We belong in these neighborhoods and deserve to be safe and free from discrimination, displacement or further abuse from the city and the state. Shelters that serve primarily women and children are right in the middle of the overlay district. Casa Familia and LifeLink’s Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative; who both provide safety and shelter deserve to remain in their respective locations without fear of rising rent or the threat of moving out of accessible locations for all families of various levels of income. We rise for the end of violence against women and girls in the form of city sanctioned violence. We rise in solidarity with Chainbreaker Collective against the exploitation of land, location, resources and services for domestic violence survivors, human trafficking victims and all forms violence! #1BillionRising #UnBillóndePie #RiseInSolidarity #RiseAgainstExploitation
